Toolbox
What tools do you have to cope with your depression and anxiety? Do you use those tools for when you feel yourself starting to slip? What tools can you add to your tool box to ensure that you have everything necessary to complete a task? Let's look inside your tool box this morning and see what we can add to help you along with your journey. The most basic tool that you can have in your box is a hammer. Many things start with using a hammer, take building a house for instance. If you look at the house and as it is being constructed, notice all of the hammers that are being used. Without a hammer those tasks would be increasingly difficult to complete. But if we use our "hammer" we can start to establish a strong base for ourselves. We can construct many things in our minds and a lot of times we let those fabricated thoughts stand in our way. But if you build your house with a strong base and foundation you will be able to with stand those things that come against it. For example, think about a time where there was a storm outside and your house still stood after the storm. Your house was built on a solid foundation and was structurally sound and it did not collapse. Why can't our mind be the same way? Why can't we build a mindset where we will not let the small things in life get us down or make us fear? It takes a lot of time to build a strong house, this process will not be done over night, but it is something worth fighting for. Start taking the time today to build your foundation, surround yourself with those things that help you feel at peace. This way if we introduce more positive outcomes we can construct a home that cannot be blown down no matter what we are going through. Take the time today to look at the events of your life and where you want to go forward from there. Start laying the foundation for your future by not living in your past. We cannot change what has happened, but we can change what will happen in our future.
Next, for the sake of this not being too long, I want to look at the outside of the home. What is your house surrounded by? Do you have siding? Do you have bricks? Or do you have both? If we build strong walls we can let the things bounce right off of us. We do not have to let the negative thoughts and fears penetrate our walls and we can withstand whatever life may throw our way. Start laying bricks one by one with the victories you have claimed. Each victory is yet another addition to the strength of your home. Yes there will be cracks at times and things will get through... Like bugs... I hate bugs... But we do not have to let them rule over our home. Try changing your thought process a little to where you may have a more positive outlook on the events that have happened and the events that will happen.
For today: Start working you your home, start laying a strong foundation to help you withstand the test of time. Start laying bricks of victory so that your walls will become tougher to penetrate. Start small, you do not have to be in a rush to complete it. If we take our time and focus on the things that we can change in the right now than our future will be stronger for it.
