Seeking Shelter
There have been times in my life where I have felt as if there is a hurricane coming against me. The winds and the rain are trying to wash away a foundation that I have already set for myself. Most of the things that we come against feel as if they are going to just wash us away. The depression of a certain situation can feel as if it can destroy everything that you have worked so hard to create. Most of the time I feel that the foundation that I have built for myself can withstand anything, but there are some times in this journey that I feel that my walls will be shattered and I would not be able to get back to the place that I am now, however if the foundation you have created for yourself is strong enough, you will be able to withstand anything that depression and anxiety can throw your way. So my question for you today is: How have you created a shelter for yourself? What tools did you use? Is your foundation strong enough to make sure that you will not be moved when something comes against you? Now a home is not built in a day, it takes time to make sure that everything is sound and will be able to withstand the elements. So for yourself, do not expect to have an immovable object right off the bat, it will take time to build up a foundation for yourself. However it starts within you, the building process starts when you decide that you will not let the depression or anxiety get the best of you. When you drive by a big home and wonder- how did they get there? I wish that I too could have a place that was the size of Bill Gates' home, but alas I have not created a tech company or have won the lottery. Everyone has their own journey when it comes to building a home- but as long as your home is built to last- it does not matter the size. I am using this to show you that no matter how small the determination is within you, that you too can build up yourself in a way that you will not fall when something comes against you. You have the strength inside of you to show the world that you can stand tall and not let depression sweep you away.
For today: Let's try adding a layer of concrete to our foundation that will lead to building a shelter for ourselves. The more you add the better the chance you have of standing firm and not giving in to what you have previously. "Your unrelenting gale force winds batter my shelter but I will never let you in"- Winterfold. That verse should be words that we carry while we face the challenges of today. No matter how strong the force that is coming against you, we will not let the depression or anxiety come into our "home" and take over. Be strong for you, be strong for your family. Stand tall in the face of what you fear or what holds you back. Once we can accomplish this, we will keep adding elements to our shelter and in the end we will have built it so strong that we will not falter and let what once would hurt us not take a hold of us.
